Why this site exists
Term-time pay is confusing. Job adverts show a full-time-equivalent salary that nobody on a term-time contract actually receives. Holiday is built into pay in a way few people are shown. And online calculators often use the wrong figures. We wanted a tool that gives the right answer and shows the working, so you can check it against your payslip and ask the right questions.
How the calculators work
- They follow the NJC Green Book term-time method (Part 4.12) and the Working Time Regulations 1998.
- Every legal or pay figure is kept in one rules file, with its official source. Nothing is hard-coded.
- Each calculator has automated tests, including worked examples checked by hand.
- All calculations run in your browser. Nothing you type is sent anywhere.
Keeping it up to date
Pay awards and minimum wage rates change each April, and holiday law changes from time to time. We check the rules file against official sources at least once a year. Each calculator shows the date it was last checked. Some figures are currently awaiting that check, and the calculators say so.
What we don't do
- We don't give legal or financial advice. See our disclaimer.
- We don't calculate tax, National Insurance or pension.
- We don't cover Northern Ireland.
